Colossians 3:23-24
It's comforting to know that God has His people in all walks of life. Sometimes combining our work and our faith can be tricky. Perhaps we can't minister like we want to or evangelize as often or openly as we may desire. But rest assured that wherever God has you right now, He can use you for as long as you are there. You may remember my post about the Fed Ex delivery guy who often delivers our Bibles. I've only spoken to him that one time and guessed that he was a brother in Christ. We order quite a few Bibles at a time so we don't receive deliveries that often. Sometimes a different guy delivers the Bibles and sometimes we come home to find the Bible boxes sitting on the front porch. He rarely leaves a door tag. But recently, after a particularly trying day, I came home to find two boxes of Bibles on the back porch and this tag on the front door:
"2 @ back door Praise the Lord!" It was a refreshing bit of encouragement at the moment I needed it, reminding me to praise the Lord in all circumstances. This was a small way in which God used the Fed Ex guy to minister to a fellow believer while fulfilling his duties on his day job. Paul Latour of The Word Street Journal blog has a post entitled, "All in a Day's Work" where he describes how he serves his King while driving a city bus. Wherever we are, we can strive to serve the Lord diligently and point others to Him because, after all, our lives are His. He purchased us at a great price! We'll never know this side of heaven all the big and small ways God has used us as we go about our daily work, be it as a homemaker, a doctor, a football player, or a cashier at Wal-Mart. God provides the opportunities and the wisdom and He should receive all the glory. We needn't have the official title of "minister" in order to minister to one another and to a lost world. As a believer, how do you serve your King?
