The Return of Daddy-ventures!

Ah, the return of Daddy-ventures!  There was a time when the children were smaller (and fewer in number!) that Daddy-ventures took place every weekend.  Then there was a time when they were few and far between.  But more recently Daddy-ventures have been happening most Saturdays.  

What exactly, you may ask, is a Daddy-venture?  Just as it sounds:  an adventure with Dad.  You may know it by its more common name: a break for Mom.  Tom loves travel and history and science and anything with an educational value and he loves to share his enthusiasm for these things with the children.  They're building great memories of time with Dad.

Some Saturdays they go to the local children's museum  

or the local natural history museum

or the local video arcade (educational value questionable...)

or the local conservatory and then out to lunch.

And some Saturdays they travel for a special day trip.  On these Saturdays they pack a lunch (with Sissy Mom's personal touch, of course) to eat on the way to the adventure then Dad takes them out to dinner at a favorite restaurant after the adventure.

One particular Daddy-venture was a day trip to the Oriental Institute of Chicago.

Another Daddy-venture was the Star Wars program at the public library where the children got to drink Jedi Juice (lemonade), make a light saber and create an origami Yoda.  And they took pictures with a Storm Trooper and Sand Person!

More recently Tom took the children on a day trip to the Milwaukee Public Museum where they saw a 3-D movie about Pterodactyls, walked the streets of Old Milwaukee, and learned all about bugs.

Every weekend there are numerous things needing Tom's attention such as car repairs, home improvements or that ever present backlog of office paperwork.  But, as he said to me the other day, the children will only be with us for a few more years.  Better to invest the time with them in these young and growing years than to squeeze in one more thing that lacks eternal value.
