"Behold children are a gift from the Lord, the fruit of the womb is His reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one's youth."
Psalm 127:3-4
Two of our boys have birthdays three days apart and very close to the Fourth of July so we've been celebrating quite a bit lately. Lil' Chunkers just turned one and Biggest Brother just turned ten.
For Lil' Chunkers we didn't set the bar too high with a big fancy party, just a quiet family dinner with his favorite meal--spaghetti made with spaghetti squash instead of pasta. And due to an incredibly busy week, I didn't bake my usual cake but went to the local cupcake bakery and purchased a box of cupcakes. It was a very tasty (and pricey!) back up plan.
So here's our Recipe for a One Year Celebration:
Start with one decorated high chair
and add a birthday boy, one year old.
Add spaghetti squash and sauce.
Mix well.
While spaghetti is mixing, open up the cupcake bakery box and pick a cupcake with lots of frosting to add next.
When the spaghetti can no longer be seen, fold in your choice of cupcake.
Add a candle and light it. Be sure to keep the birthday boy's fingers out of the flame.
Add siblings one at a time until the space around the high chair is full. Clap and sing "Happy Birthday".
Scrape the pile of frosting off of the cupcake. Cut into quarters and combine with the birthday boy.
Last, add some birthday speeches about how cuddly the birthday boy is, how he's learning to share, and how much you enjoy him in your family.

I love that recipe!
